House Republicans are criticizing Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) for wearing a military honor pin that he did not earn, and are demanding that he give it up, according to NOTUS. Nehls, an Army veteran, has been wearing the Combat Infantryman badge for his service in Afghanistan since he joined the House in 2021. However, it was discovered in March 2023 that the pin had been awarded by mistake and was subsequently removed from his record. Despite this, Nehls continues to wear it in Congress, which has upset some of his fellow veterans. At least eight GOP representatives have expressed their disapproval of Nehls, with many calling for him to stop wearing it. Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), a retired Navy SEAL, said, “As a former commander, it matters what you wear on your uniform, and if you didn’t earn it, you shouldn’t wear it.” Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) was similarly outraged, calling Nehls’ decision “stolen valor.”
