A rodeo in Sisters, Oregon, erupted into mayhem Saturday when a bull fled the arena and ran loose on the festival grounds, injuring three people, including a sheriff’s deputy, according to officials.
First responders reported that injuries sent two people to the hospital.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. PT on Saturday, during the last section of the bull-riding competition at Sisters Rodeo. According to a statement from Sisters Rodeo, the bull that was competing at the event hopped the arena gate and raced out through the grounds before returning to the livestock holding cage.
A video of the incident circulated on social media, showing the bull punching a rodeo attendee and pulling them off the ground twice.
There was no data available regarding the attendee’s present status.
“Rodeo livestock professionals quickly responded to safely contain the bull,” event organizers said in a statement. Our rodeo pickup men secured it next to the livestock holding pens and immediately placed it into a pen.
Lt. Jayson Janes of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office told ABC News that the sheriff’s officer sustained a minor injury while chasing the bull after it escaped. The nature of the third person’s injuries during the melee remained unclear.
The Rodeo Sports Medicine Team, Sisters-Camp Sherman RFPD, Cloverdale RFPD, rodeo workers, and local law enforcement all responded quickly with first aid and treatment, according to event organizers.
As planned, Sisters Rodeo held its scheduled events on Sunday.
