Baltimore Police reported that a “chemical agent” was released and fireworks were set off in a crowd at a Baltimore pride event on Saturday evening, causing several people to get injured while trying to escape.
Police officers stationed for Pride Parade festivities were notified of a potential chemical agent, such as mace, hair spray, or another substance, that had been released into the crowd in front of the main music stage shortly after 8:30 p.m.
The same location also saw the ignition of fireworks, which triggered a panic and mass exodus. Unfortunately, numerous people were injured in the ensuing chaos as they tried to make a hasty exit.
After providing medical attention to the affected individuals, the fire officials proceeded to close down the event.
The number of people injured during the mass exodus was not disclosed by the police.
The authorities are currently in the process of verifying the type of chemical agent that was utilized and are meticulously analyzing the surveillance footage to reconstruct the chain of events. According to the police, this does not appear to be a deliberate assault.
Police have stated that the investigation is currently in progress.
