Over the weekend in Southern California, a Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint and had to fire his gun during the incident. The robbery took place on the same day that President Joe Biden was in the state.
According to a Facebook post by Tustin police on Monday, an agent was returning from a work assignment when the incident was reported at 9:36 p.m. on Saturday near a residential community in Orange County.
President Joe Biden attended a fundraising event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday night. He returned to his Los Angeles hotel before 9 p.m. and then flew back to Washington, D.C. later that night.
It was not disclosed by the Secret Service whether the agent was a part of the team responsible for safeguarding the president.
The Peacock Theater is located 42 miles north of Tustin.
According to a statement issued by the Tustin Police Department, an armed robbery took place where the agent’s bag was snatched.
According to the Secret Service, the government-issued weapon was fired by the agent.
According to the police statement, the suspect(s) have not been found yet and it remains unclear whether they sustained any injuries during the incident. The individual departed from the location in a silver vehicle and is yet to be apprehended. However, a few of the Secret Service agent’s possessions were recovered.
According to the Secret Service, the Tustin Police Department serves as the primary investigative agency.
