The New York prosecutors have announced that the man accused of assaulting actor Steve Buscemi on a Midtown street is currently being held in jail on bond.
The 66-year-old actor, known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Fargo,” was walking in Manhattan on May 8 when an unknown person punched him in the face. On Friday, three days after releasing a photo of the suspect, police detained a man in connection with the assault.
The actor received treatment at a hospital for eye injuries but was otherwise unharmed, according to Buscemi’s publisher, who confirmed the attack.
Prosecutors said that the judge set the 50-year-old accused man’s bail at $50,000 during his arraignment on Saturday. It was not obvious whether the defendant had a lawyer who could speak for him. The local public defender’s office received a phone message. The suspect is due back in court on Thursday.
The criminal complaint indicates that the man punched two people at the time, although investigators did not identify them. The criminal complaint also asserts that surveillance video captured the attack on Buscemi.
Another stranger attacked Michael Stuhlbarg, Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” co-star, in March. In Manhattan’s Central Park, someone apparently whacked him on the back of the neck with a rock.
