A person fell from the stands to their death Sunday during the graduation ceremony for Ohio State University, according to university officials. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the fall occurred around midday, near where the last graduates were filing into Ohio Stadium.
The police have cordoned off the area. It wasn’t apparent whether the fall was accidental or purposeful, or if it involved a kid or someone else.
In an emailed statement, university spokesman Benjamin Johnson stated that the university was aware of the fatality but had no other information to provide about what occurred.
Some kids and attendees at the ceremony were clearly unhappy. The ceremony continued, and the speakers made no mention of what occurred.
“For anyone affected by today’s incident, we will make counseling and other support resources available,” a representative told CBS station WBNS.
According to the institution, 12,555 students received their diplomas or certificates in person, as stated by the station.
The institution has recently dealt with Gaza war protests, which have affected campuses countrywide. Over three dozen Ohio State students and activists risk misdemeanor charges following the university’s Thursday night crackdown on rallies over Israeli investments.
