The NYPD released harrowing bodycam footage showing cops saving the life of Rocket, a puppy who was thrown off a balcony in Manhattan last week.
The dog is still alive and healing nearly a week after the terrifying event in Washington Heights, authorities said Wednesday.
Last Thursday, cops called Edgecombe Avenue for a report of a woman holding a critically injured dog.
When authorities arrived, they saw the lady, subsequently identified as Rocket’s 25-year-old owner, holding the puppy and allegedly claiming she threw her out a window. The police later stated that the dog was thrown from a ledge, not a window; it is unknown which ledge or how far the dog fell.
According to authorities, the woman is mentally disturbed and told responding officers she “snapped,” providing no further explanation for why the dog was tossed.
The authorities separated the owner and Rocket before rushing the dog to a local animal hospital for treatment.
The bodycam video shows an obviously concerned policeman carrying a lifeless Rocket and telling another officer that the dog is in shock, bleeding from the mouth, but is still breathing.
“When a puppy sustained horrific injuries at the hands of its owner last week, [33rd Precinct] officers intervened, cradled the injured animal, and rushed the pup to the nearest [ASPCA] for immediate medical attention,” the New York Police Department posted on X. “Thanks to their actions, Rocket is alive today.”
According to the police, there is a large list of people, including those from the precinct stationhouse, who want to adopt Rocket and who will need additional surgery to recover.
Morgan Cleopatra, the dog’s owner, was arrested on several offenses, including aggravated cruelty to animals, torture, injury, or failure to feed animals, criminal possession of a firearm, and false personation.
