Abi Carter emerged as the triumphant winner of Season 22 of “American Idol” on Sunday night.
In a highly competitive race, the prestigious title was awarded to the talented 21-year-old singer from California. Despite tough competition from Will Moseley and Jack Blocker, the young artist emerged victorious.
During the 3-hour finale, Carter performed “What Was I Made For?” which is Billie Eilish’s Oscar-winning song from the movie Barbie.
The episode showcased captivating performances from Jon Bon Jovi, Fantasia Barrino, Jason Mraz, Wynonna Judd, Seal, and New Kids on the Block. It also marked an emotional farewell as judge Katy Perry bid adieu after seven remarkable seasons.
During the show, female contestants paid homage to Perry by performing a medley of her popular hits, including “Teenage Dream,” “Dark Horse,” and “California Gurls.”
Perry shed tears on certain occasions and found solace in the presence of fellow judges, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
She indulged in a slice of pizza and showcased a dress embellished with pictures of several contestants from her tenure on the show.
ABC has yet to announce who will replace Perry for Season 23 on ABC.
