Former Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) expressed his criticism towards former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley. Kinzinger’s criticism was in response to Haley’s statement on Wednesday, where she revealed her intention to support former President Trump over President Biden in the upcoming general election in November.
In response to Haley stating that she would vote for Trump, Kinzinger expressed his disappointment, saying, “Not a surprise but: Pathetic.”
Haley suspended her campaign in March, making her the last candidate standing in the Republican primary race for the 2024 presidential nomination.
Throughout the race, Haley skillfully walked the fine line between challenging the frontrunner’s stance on issues and not alienating his supporters. However, as the primary race entered its final stretch, she became more vocal in her criticism of the former president. This shift came in response to his persistent insults and attempts to pressure her into dropping out of the campaign.
When Haley decided to drop out of the race, she chose not to endorse the former president and instead advised him not to rely on her supporters for votes. She emphasized that he would need to earn their support.
Haley did not endorse the former president on Wednesday; however, she revealed that she decided to vote for him due to their alignment on various policies.
“When it comes to choosing a president, my priorities lie with someone who will stand up for our allies and hold our enemies accountable. I believe in a leader who will prioritize border security without any room for excuses,” expressed Haley during her speech at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank. “I want a president who supports capitalism and values freedom, as well as someone who understands the importance of reducing our debt, rather than accumulating more.”
“I’ve been vocal about Trump’s imperfections on these policies multiple times, so it’s no secret that he’s not without flaws. However, when comparing him to Biden, the difference is stark. Biden’s track record and decisions have been nothing short of a catastrophe. That’s why, when it comes to casting my vote, I’ll be supporting Trump.”
