In recently released footage, Albuquerque police can be seen rushing to a gas station in northeast Albuquerque following reports of a man wielding a gun at two individuals. As it turns out, the man in question was none other than Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputy Micheal Borrecco.
On January 24, 2024, police were called to the Circle K on 4300 Osuna Road following reports of a man yelling at two individuals through a PA system and brandishing a firearm. The victims had just left the store when they heard what they believed to be the store’s PA system. However, they soon realized that the yelling was coming from a truck parked in front of the store, which was also flashing its lights at them. The man in the truck was reportedly making threatening remarks and pointing a gun at the victims, even going so far as to say he would “take their souls.”
Upon the officers’ arrival at the scene, the lapel video captured Borrecco in the driver’s seat of the truck. The officers inquired if he had a gun on him, to which Borrecco denied twice. While questioning him, one of the officers noticed what appeared to be a police vest lying on the passenger seat. In response to the officer’s observation, Borrecco claimed to have been employed with the BCSO for a minimum of 15 years and affirmed his association with the sheriff’s office.
Upon inspection of the truck from outside, the officer noticed the presence of a vest and a handgun, as depicted in the subsequent video footage. Following this, the vehicle was impounded and a search warrant was obtained based on a criminal complaint. Upon execution of the search warrant, investigators discovered two empty 100ml bottles of vodka in the center console, as well as 17 open and consumed bottles of a similar size in the back of the vehicle.
After his arrest, Borrecco faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and negligent use of a deadly weapon. As a result, he was put on administrative leave from BCSO.
