On Thursday, the families of the victims from the tragic Sandy Hook massacre took action to take control of Alex Jones’ social media accounts. This move was made as the bankruptcy lawsuit concerning his estate progresses into the liquidation phase.
In an attempt to prevent the loss of all his assets during the bankruptcy process, Jones was held responsible for nearly $1.5 billion in damages for making false claims that the 2012 massacre was in some way faked.
Last week, an agreement was reached between the families and Jones to liquidate his assets, which includes his stake in the InfoWars web show. Jones used this platform to spread false conspiracies. According to a court filing on Thursday, the families have requested that Jones’ social media accounts also be included in the liquidation process. This is to prevent him from using them to create future businesses.
According to the families, Jones’ X account with a massive 2.3 million followers is equivalent to a customer list of any other liquidating business.
During the hearing scheduled for Friday, a Houston judge is anticipated to transfer Jones’ case to Chapter 7 bankruptcy. This move would allow the affected families to keep receiving payments from Jones’ assets and income until the debt is settled, which could potentially take the remainder of Jones’ life. The motion pertaining to his social media accounts will also be addressed during the hearing.
According to court records, Jones has estimated his assets to be less than $12 million. This means that he will be left with a significant legal debt even after selling off Infowars and other assets.
