According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy returning home from work shot a burglar who broke into his home early Sunday morning.
Around 5:30 a.m., Hamilton County deputies and Reading police officers responded to a complaint of shots fired in the 1700 block of Keith Road in Reading.
According to investigators, a confrontation occurred, and the deputy fired his personal weapon.
WCPO 9 records an off-duty deputy telling dispatch, “I’m in my personal residence; someone broke into my house when I got off duty and attempted to attack my family.” “Shots fired.”
According to the 911 call, the deputy physically struggled with the suspect before shooting him.
Darryl Williams Jr., 26, received a shot in the leg, according to Kyla Woods, the public information officer for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Woods stated that his injuries were not life-threatening.
Woods added that, after being shot, Williams fled the scene and was later captured by Cincinnati police.
Williams faces one count of aggravated burglary, according to Woods.
An office manager from a nearby apartment complex told our team on site that they heard gunfire around 5 a.m. They also stated that they observed search dogs and drones in the vicinity. Detectives told her to return inside after she walked the apartment grounds around 7 a.m., she said.
“This sort of thing never happens in the area,” she stated. “It’s a shock when it happens.
Police from Lockland, St. Bernard, and Woodlawn also went to the site.
