Search teams searching the Florida coast for a missing diver over the weekend discovered a male body on Monday. However, authorities confirmed that it was not the individual they were searching for.
Authorities are currently unable to determine the identity of the man who was recovered from the water. According to the sheriff, there are no missing person reports in the county that match the description of the body. The individual, estimated to be over 50 years old and weighing between 200 and 225 pounds, remains unidentified at this time.
Authorities stated that the body did not seem to have been in the water for a long time. Medical examiners are currently investigating the cause and estimated time of death.
The sunken ship, which was sailing from Corpus Christi, Texas, to New York, met its final fate on May 6, 1942, around 130 miles north of Miami. After being hit by a torpedo, the ship settled on a sandy seabed, approximately 65 feet deep beneath the water’s surface, as reported by Fishing Status.
The U.S. Coast Guard announced on social media that they have called off the search for Price. After scouring a total of 1,415 miles and dedicating 36 hours to the search effort, the decision to suspend the active search was made. Lt. Cmdr. John Beal expressed heartfelt condolences to Mr. Price’s family during this difficult time.
Authorities are actively pursuing both investigations.
