According to his agent who spoke to NFL Network on Monday night, BJ Thompson, the defensive lineman for Kansas City Chiefs, has been discharged from the hospital following his cardiac arrest last week.

On Thursday, while attending a special teams meeting at the Chiefs’ practice facility, Thompson, who is 25 years old, experienced seizures and went into cardiac arrest. In order to help with his breathing, he was sedated and placed on a ventilator overnight. However, on Friday, he regained consciousness and was no longer in need of the ventilator.

According to a statement provided to NFL Network by agent Chris Turnage, the family expresses gratitude for the prayers and gives special recognition to the Chiefs medical and training staff for their prompt response and exceptional handling of the situation.

According to Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs’ vice president of sports medicine and performance, Harrison Butker took the initiative and left the meeting on Thursday to inform the team’s medical staff about Thompson’s condition. He further added that Thompson received immediate treatment from the athletic trainers and team doctor until the fire department personnel arrived on the scene.

According to Burkholder, Thompson experienced a cardiac arrest lasting between one to one and a half minutes before being taken to a nearby hospital.

In 2023, the Chiefs picked Thompson from Stephen F. Austin during the fifth round of the draft. During his rookie season, he participated in a single game and managed to record two tackles.
