Former national security adviser John Bolton voiced his criticism of President Biden’s recent threat to cease weapons support to Israel, should they proceed with an invasion of Rafah. Bolton described this move as an unprecedented rupture in the longstanding alliance between the two nations.
During an interview on “The Cats Roundtable” with John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM, Bolton discussed the current state of U.S. interference in the Israel-Hamas war, emphasizing that it has reached a significant turning point.
Biden made it clear on Wednesday that the United States will not provide weapons to Israel if they enter the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where over a million people are currently seeking refuge.
John Bolton, a former national security advisor, expressed his concern about the unprecedented strain in the relationship between the United States and Israel. He emphasized that the pressure being exerted on Israel during a time when they perceive an existential threat is highly remarkable.
According to Bolton, Biden’s declaration is seen as a response to pressure from the left wing of the Democratic Party. There is concern that if Biden doesn’t take a strong stance, they may choose not to vote for him in November.
According to him, it is likely that there is a lot happening behind the scenes as the Israeli government has not yet directly responded to Biden’s comments.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently emphasized that Israel is prepared to stand alone if necessary.
According to Bolton, he has never witnessed a threat like the one made by Biden, which essentially implies that Israel would be abandoned if they continue. He believes that this reflects Biden’s weakness and sends a negative message to Russia and China.
โI mean, if the United States doesn’t come to Israel’s support, what do we plan to do if Russia or China threaten countries along their borders that are not as close to us?โ he pondered. โPeople must question, if we fail to uphold our commitments to Israel, who else will we be reliable for?โ
