Another fighter has joined the ring in the fast food value wars.
Fast food behemoths such as McDonald’s and Wendy’s are scrambling to reclaim customers with low-cost promotions after soaring prices drove them away. Bloomberg reported last week that McDonald’s plans to launch a $5 meal bargain to entice more customers following a dismal first quarter.
Enter Burger King, one of Ronald McDonald’s main adversaries. Bloomberg acquired an internal memo indicating that Burger King plans to launch its own $5 meal deal prior to the McDonald’s promotion in late June.
“After dominating the industry in value traffic for three quarters, Burger King is increasing its value offerings.” “We are bringing back our $5 Your Way Meal, as agreed upon with our franchisees in April,” Burger King said in a statement to USA TODAY.
Burger King’s $5 Your Way Meal will contain a choice of three sandwiches, chicken nuggets, fries, and a drink. Burger King stated in an email to USA TODAY that the bargain meal will be available for “several months,” compared to four weeks at McDonald’s.
“Regardless of their plans, we are moving full speed ahead with our own plans to launch our own $5 value meal before they do โ and run it for several months,” said Burger King’s U.S. and Canada President Tom Curtis, according to Bloomberg..
Fast food deals aplenty
As fast food and fast-casual establishments compete for customer attention and cash, value meals, promotions, and freebies have recently become the norm.
Wendy’s has unveiled a $3 breakfast combo that includes an English muffin sandwich with egg, cheese, bacon, or sausage, and a side of seasoned potatoes. This is in addition to weekly free chicken nugget deals on the Wendy’s app and limited promotions, such as a one-cent Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger from May 28 to June 2 for National Hamburger Day.
Aside from the upcoming $5 lunch, McDonald’s announced its own free nugget deal earlier this week, the latest in a long line of in-app exclusives that urge users to sign up for a rewards account to access a slew of promotions and sales.
