A Burlington Coat Factory security guard shot at an armed would-be shoplifter who came into the store on Sunday, threatening to abduct and shoot her, according to sources.
According to cops and law enforcement sources, the 15-year-old was one of four masked troublemakers turned away as they attempted to enter the store at the corner of Pennsylvania and Wortman avenues in East New York around 4:20 p.m. Sunday.
When they were kicked out of the clothes store for refusing to remove their masks, they threatened the 60-year-old security guard (a retired cop) that they would return to kidnap and shoot her, according to sources.
According to accounts, the young threat returned as promised, this time brandishing a gun.
According to cops and reports, the guard fired three shots at the teen gunman, who fled for his life.
Police apprehended the teen on Monday, according to sources.
Sources claim that they arrested him and charged him with menacing and burglary.
A representative for the store chain did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The crime occurred about three months after a 15-year-old migrant allegedly wounded a tourist and fired at a police officer during a botched robbery at a JD Sports store in Times Square, according to officials.
Retail theft has increased by roughly 6% citywide this year, with 19,475 cases reported through Sunday, compared to 18,397 during the same period last year (2023), according to the most recent NYPD figures.
