During Pride month in Colorado, the state Republican Party sent out a homophobic mass email referring to LGBTQ individuals as “godless groomers” and instructing followers on social media to “burn all Pride flags.”
The Colorado GOP’s campaign email included the subject line “God Hates Pride.” It referred to LGBTQ people as “barbaric,” “creeps,” “degenerates,” “predators,” “radicals,” and “reprobates,” according to The Advocate.
The email also included a link to a sermon by Pastor Mark Driscoll titled “God Hates Flags,” which alludes to the Westboro Baptist Church’s anti-gay propaganda. Dave Williams, chairman of the party, signed the statement, according to KUSA.
“The month of June has arrived, and, once again, the godless groomers in our society want to attack what is decent, holy, and righteous so that they can ultimately harm our children,” the email claimed, according to screenshots released by Colorado journalist Kyle Clark.
The email went on to describe gender-affirming care as a “barbaric medical procedure” and incorrectly claimed that it is “irreversible.” The statement concluded on a scathing note: “These degenerates want to violate our children and their innocence.”
After Clark shared the emails on social media, the Colorado GOP went after X, calling followers to “burn all the #pride flags this June,” along with an image of flames.
