Columbia University has banned a student who posted a video in January stating, “Zionists don’t deserve to live,” from campus. He is one of the leaders of a pro-Palestinian protest camp that has shaken the Ivy League school. The New York Times reports that it remains unclear if Khymani James, 20, received a suspension or expulsion. According to the publication, James published the video during a disciplinary trial that revolved around a social media remark describing how he would fight a Zionist: “I don’t fight to injure or for there to be a winner or a loser; I fight to kill.” During the hearing, he denied that the statement was “problematic.” “Their existence and the programs they have constructed, specifically Israel, are all hostile to peace.” All of this is contradictory to peace. And so, yes, I feel very comfortable calling for those people’s deaths,” he remarked. “Be grateful that I’m not just going out and murdering Zionists.” On Friday morning, after video of his remarks resurfaced, James turned to social media to apologize, stating, “What I said was wrong.”
