A man choked a terrified 6-year-old girl in Brooklyn while snatching her and her sister’s gold necklaces, which were birthday gifts from their mother, according to police.
Police published photographs of the sought-after suspect on Saturday, identifying him as the man who approached a 14-year-old girl and her younger sister Wednesday at their Crown Heights apartment complex near Eastern Parkway and Ralph Avenue.
The older girl claimed she was heading home from school with her sister when the man abruptly cornered them in the building’s cramped lobby, demanding the girls hand over their necklaces, which were birthday gifts from their mother.
“The man grabbed me by the neck, and then my sister looked, and she started getting scared,” the 14-year-old girl told ABC 7. I didn’t have time. I couldn’t react. I just looked at my sister, and she was screaming.”
According to police, the suspect choked the 6-year-old girl with one hand while yanking off her necklace with the other before stealing the elder sister’s jewels and fleeing the scene.
The two girls were transferred to Maimonides Medical Center, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect is believed to be between 25 and 40 years old, stands 5 feet 8 inches tall, and has dark hair pulled back in a ponytail.
He was seen wearing a white t-shirt and carrying a Target shopping bag before taking out a gray hooded sweatshirt from the bag to conceal himself, according to officials.
