Republican National Committee (RNC) co-chair Lara Trump faced criticism on social media on Sunday for sharing the GOP’s strategy to prevent Nevada from counting mail-in ballots after Election Day.

On Friday, the RNC, Donald Trump’s campaign, the Nevada GOP, and a Nevada voter joined forces to file a federal lawsuit against election officials in the battleground state. Their objective is to halt the counting of mail-in ballots that were received after Election Day. According to current Nevada law, mail-in ballots can be counted up to four days after Election Day if they bear a postmark from before the end of that day.

During her appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Lara Trump was asked about her current actions regarding the lawsuit against Nevada.

During an interview with Maria Bartiromo, the spokesperson emphasized the importance of counting ballots before the elections come to a close. She highlighted the ongoing lawsuits aimed at ensuring a fair and transparent election process. Specifically, in Nevada, the spokesperson expressed the desire for Election Day to serve as the deadline for counting mail-in ballots.

Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump, the former president’s second eldest son, was elected as co-chair of the RNC in March. Her endorsement by her father-in-law, who is also the presumed Republican presidential nominee, drew criticism and raised questions about Trump’s influence within the GOP.

MeidasTouch, a liberal news network, took a satirical jab at Lara Trump’s proposal on X (formerly Twitter). In a tweet on Sunday morning, they humorously remarked, “Why not just count all the votes?”

Former tennis star Andy Roddick, a vocal critic of Trump, expressed his thoughts on the election by stating, “I have a super weird counterintuitive take. An election can’t be over until the votes are counted. So…”.

Fred Wellman, a U.S. Army combat veteran who hosts the “On Democracy” podcast on MeidasTouch, expressed his strong opinion on the matter. He criticized the actions of certain individuals, referring to them as immensely stupid. Wellman called for the Military and Veterans Service Organizations to take legal action against Trump and the RNC for disenfranchising military voters who cast their votes via absentee ballot, both domestically and overseas. He emphasized that such actions would be in violation of the law.

What the Lawsuit Says

The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced on Friday that it is filing a lawsuit against Nevada, claiming that the state’s ballot receipt deadline violates federal law and compromises the integrity of the election. Chairman Michael Whatley emphasized the importance of not counting ballots received after Election Day, stating that the RNC and its allies are taking legal action to ensure a fair election, protect the rights of Nevada voters, and challenge any unlawful activities.

According to the lawsuit, Nevada’s violation of federal law leads to the dilution of timely and valid ballots by untimely and invalid ones. This violation infringes upon the rights of candidates, campaigns, and voters under federal law.

Nevada’s Democratic secretary of state, Francisco Aguilar, expressed his hope that the RNC would devote as much effort and attention to educating voters on the electoral process as they have in their lawsuit against the state of Nevada.

According to a recent press release from the committee, the RNC is currently engaged in 83 lawsuits related to “fair elections” across 25 states.
