In New York, Donald Trump was convicted last week on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to aid his 2016 campaign. On Tuesday, he expressed his displeasure with the process once again, claiming that it was “unfair” to him. He also stated that he was disappointed that he “never saw a glimmer of a smile from the jury.”
During an interview on Newsmax’s Greg Kelly Reports, the former president was asked if he could interpret the jurors’ body language to get a sense of their thoughts. However, he stated that he couldn’t discern any such indications.
According to Trump, he had already predicted that Mother Teresa wouldn’t receive a fair trial in that particular venue even before the verdict was announced. He emphasized that the jury didn’t show any signs of positivity towards the case. Trump described the venue to be unjust as it only comprised of a small number of Republicans. He also criticized the judge, stating that the judge was also unfair.
Despite the conclusion of the trial, Trump is still restrained by the gag order he breached 10 times. The order prevents him from making any comments regarding the jury, court staff, prosecutors, witnesses, and others involved in the case. Recently, his legal representatives asked Judge Juan Merchan to lift the gag order, citing the upcoming debate with President Joe Biden as one of the reasons. However, it remains to be seen whether the request will be granted.
Last week, NBC News reported that Trump’s supporters are making threats towards jurors, prosecutors, and Merchan himself. This information was provided by Advance Democracy, a nonprofit research organization.
Once again, the ex-president, who is currently appealing an $83 million verdict for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll by alleging that her allegation of him sexually assaulting her was fabricated, reiterated his assertion.
He complained, “I am expected to pay an absurd sum for a made-up story about someone I have never even met or known.”
Despite the substantial defamation judgment, Trump has persisted in his attacks against Carroll, which occurred as recently as last month. In reaction, Carroll’s lawyer stated that they are considering all possible options.
