Former President Trump is back on the campaign trail, holding his first events in battleground states since the start of his hush money trial in New York City.
Former President is scheduled to give a speech in Waukesha, Wis., on Wednesday afternoon. He will then hold a rally in Freeland, Mich. in the evening. During these events, he is anticipated to criticize President Biden on issues such as inflation and immigration. Additionally, he is likely to address his own legal matters and express his thoughts on the ongoing protests at college campuses concerning the war in Gaza.
On Wednesday, Democrats are set to target Trump regarding abortion as Florida, the former president’s home state, enforces a ban on the procedure after six weeks of pregnancy.
Trump must appear in court four days a week in New York City as he confronts charges of falsifying business records in connection with an alleged hush money scheme aimed at concealing an affair during the 2016 campaign.
During his appearances outside the courtroom in Manhattan, he has consistently expressed his dissatisfaction with being unable to actively participate in the campaign trail. He is determined to secure a second term in the White House, where he will face President Biden once again in November.
“I should be in Georgia, New Hampshire, Ohio, and many other places,” stated Trump on Tuesday.
However, Trump has not previously taken advantage of the scheduled off days on Wednesdays and weekends to campaign in swing states that are likely to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the election. While he did plan a rally in North Carolina last month, it had to be canceled due to severe weather conditions.
Wisconsin and Michigan played crucial roles in the closely contested 2020 election, and they remain pivotal for both Trump and Biden in the upcoming November election. According to an average of polls by Decision Desk HQ/The Hill, Trump currently holds a 4 percentage point lead in Michigan, while in Wisconsin, the former president is ahead by 3 percentage points.
