Former President Trump criticized Colin Jost’s performance at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner over the weekend.
The star-studded WHCA dinner held at the Washington Hilton Hotel drew celebrities, journalists, and lawmakers. The speeches given by Jost and President Biden during the event received criticism from the former president.
“The White House Correspondentsโ Dinner was a complete disappointment. Colin Jost’s performance fell flat, and Joe Biden’s speech was a disaster! It couldn’t have gone any worse,” Trump expressed his dissatisfaction on Truth Social.
Throughout his time in office, Trump notably did not attend the dinner.
Jost and Biden playfully teased Trump, particularly regarding his ongoing legal disputes, in their speeches on Saturday evening. The “Weekend Update” host started off his remarks by making a jest about Trump’s hush money trial, which recently commenced in a Manhattan courtroom.
“Hey there, everybody! I’m Colin Jost, and guess what? I’m here to give you the Republican response,” Jost humorously declared. “To be frank, I’m a bit pressed for time. I’ve got to rush back to New York because I’m actually juror number five in this major trial. When Trump’s lawyer caught sight of me, he couldn’t help but think, ‘This guy’s definitely on our side!'”
Jost didn’t hold back in his criticism, taking aim at media giants like the New York Times and Fox News, and even President Biden himself.
Taking a hilarious approach, Jost teased President Biden about his age, showcasing on-screen clips of the comedian’s own work as a young reporter in high school.
“You know, it’s not really fair to expect President Biden to do it since the technology wasn’t even around when he was in high school,” Jost joked.
During the speech, Biden didn’t hold back from criticizing Trump, even going so far as to compare him to a “6-year-old” at one point.
“I’ve been on a roll ever since the State of the Union. However, Donald has been facing some challenging days lately. You could say he’s been dealing with some ‘stormy weather’,” Biden remarked, alluding to Stormy Daniels’ claim that she was given hush money to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump prior to the 2016 election.
This week, Trump is once again in court for his New York hush money trial. He is facing 34 counts of falsifying business records. These charges are related to reimbursements made to his former fixer, Michael Cohen, for a payment made to Daniels.
