Heart-pounding footage shows highly trained NYPD officers climbing over a glass wall to save a terrified woman on the brink of a 54-story rooftop in Manhattan last week.
The 33-year-old lady was rescued in a dramatic fashion last Wednesday at a Midtown building on East 29th Street.
When members of the NYPD’s emergency service unit (ESU) arrived, they were separated from the woman by a glass barrier, prompting cops to use a rope to reach the victim, according to bodycam footage.
Around 3:10 p.m., the ESU team received a call regarding a lady who seemed to be preparing to leap from the 54-floor building’s ledge, according to police.
The NYPD shared a video online showing at least two ESU members holding onto the woman’s left arm through a small breach in the seven-foot high barriers.
The video then shows one officer connected to a rope jumping over the glass wall to join another ESU member who was already assisting the woman on the ledge.
The two ESU detectives then carried the woman over the glass wall while police waited on the other side to catch her, according to the film. One of the rescuers assured her, “You’re fine.”
Authorities reported that the woman was brought to Bellevue Hospital.
“When the public needs assistance, they contact the police,” the NYPD stated in a social media post. “When the police need help, they call ESU.”
