According to former FBI director James Comey, there is absolutely no possibility that Donald Trump will be acquitted by the jury in his hush money trial taking place in New York City.
According to Mr. Comey, the prosecutors were able to construct a compelling case by connecting various pieces of evidence, such as documents, checks, phone calls, messages, and the words spoken by Mr. Trump. This allowed them to establish a strong circumstantial case to support their allegations.
According to Mr. Comey, the likelihood of a conviction is extremely high, while the chances of a hung jury are significant but much smaller. However, he believes that there is absolutely no chance of an acquittal.
After hearing from 20 different witnesses over the course of several weeks, the prosecution against the former president concluded its case on Monday.
According to Mr. Comey, in my extensive experience as a trial lawyer, I have found that a circumstantial case holds significant sway with a jury.
When the indictment was unveiled last year, his thoughts on the case were quite different from his current prediction.
“When I read the indictment, I wasn’t sure if I would have brought the case,” he explained to Abrams.
During the Bush administration, Mr. Comey served as a US attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
He stated, “After investigating the case, I am not sure why they wouldn’t bring it.”
According to the former FBI director, the case that Manhattan prosecutors have is much stronger than he had originally anticipated.
Mr. Trump faces 34 charges of falsifying business records in New York. Prosecutors claim that he attempted to conceal hush money payments to an adult film star prior to the 2016 presidential election, in order to prevent her from disclosing an alleged affair.
Despite the allegations, he maintains his innocence and has entered a plea of not guilty for all the charges.
Closing arguments are set to begin next week, followed by jury deliberations to determine whether Mr. Trump is guilty of falsifying business records.
