A colossal tornado was caught on camera as it touched down in Hawley, Texas on Thursday. In an incredible turn of events, a brave storm chaser not only witnessed the destructive force of nature but also ended up rescuing a family of four whose home had been completely destroyed by the tornado.
In a heart-wrenching live video, Freddy McKinney urgently urges the family to “Hurry, get inside!” as they desperately flee for their lives, pleading for his assistance.
They raced towards the hospital, which was several miles away.
Kasey and Wes Lambert, along with their 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, sustained a range of lacerations, bruises, and broken bones, but thankfully, they are otherwise in good condition.
“We witnessed the impact as it struck our friend’s house, prompting us to quickly seek refuge in the closet,” recounted Kasey Lambert. “We huddled together, tightly gripping each other’s hands, and instinctively turned to prayer, fervently requesting for our safety. As debris rained down upon us, I glanced upwards, only to witness the devastating collapse of our own home.”
After the tornado had swept through their house, Lambert mentioned that they managed to locate Lane promptly and rushed to McKinney for assistance. Lambert expressed uncertainty about her son’s survival had McKinney not been present to transport them to the hospital due to the severity of the bleeding.
The Lamberts expressed their immense gratitude for the overwhelming love and support they have received from the community during their recovery and the process of cleaning up their damaged home.
Several other homes in Hawley sustained significant damage or were completely destroyed as a result of the tornado. According to the National Weather Service, initial assessments indicate that the tornado was likely a strong EF3 or a weak EF4. However, the agency will require a few more days to carefully review the data before reaching a final conclusion.
