Four individuals lost their lives and over 30 others sustained injuries as a result of a collision between a passenger bus and a cargo train in the central region of Peru on Sunday, according to the national police.
The crash occurred in the district of La Oroya, approximately 110 miles (177 kilometers) east of Lima, according to authorities. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated that the cause of the accident is currently being investigated. It further mentioned that both the train and bus involved in the incident had obtained all the necessary permits and were privately operated.
According to Highway Police Cmdr. Justo Venero, the crash site was equipped with speed-limit and train-crossing road signs. Venero revealed that the train’s driver informed authorities that the collision occurred despite the train’s audible and visible signals being activated.
The bus departed from Lima and was en route to the city of Huancayo. Police released images that depicted the overturned bus on the Central Highway.
