During his first congressional hearing since retiring, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) accused Dr. Anthony Fauci of throwing his longtime advisor, David Morens, “to the wolves.”
During a hearing on Monday, Fauci appeared before the House Oversight and Accountability Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. The focus of the hearing was to address questions regarding Morens, a former senior advisor at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Fauci was asked multiple questions on this topic.
During their investigation, Congress found that Morens tried to evade Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests by using his personal email account to communicate with external parties. Fauci, on the other hand, refuted these allegations and expressed uncertainty about Morens’ direct reporting relationship to him.
During his appearance on The Hill’s “Rising” on Tuesday, Paul revealed that one of the most unexpected occurrences during the hearing, which was characterized by some tumultuous moments, was how swiftly Fauci “betrayed his aide.”
In Senator Rand Paul’s opinion, David Morens has been unfairly treated by his former colleague Anthony Fauci. Morens, who has worked with Fauci for two decades, claimed in his opening statement that he barely knew Fauci. According to Paul, Morens had an office in another building and was not included in his policy meetings. Paul believes that Fauci and his team have left Morens to face the consequences alone.
In direct contradiction to Fauci’s statements on Monday, Paul argued that Morens’s testimony conflicts directly.
He expressed his opinion that there should be a more in-depth investigation to uncover the truth and determine who is being truthful.
Paul recommended that the committee reach out to Morens and inquire whether he would like to finish giving his testimony. This suggestion came after Fauci had spoken and refuted the allegations regarding conducting business on his personal email.
While admitting that he may have corresponded with Morens on a personal email, Fauci denied any official business being conducted. He clarified that the communication may have been regarding the collaboration on writing medical scientific chapters.
According to Paul, Fauci basically accused Morens of lying, which raises concerns as to whether Morens would want to set the record straight.
