Julio Foolio, a rapper from Florida, was tragically shot and killed in the parking lot of a hotel in Tampa in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Lewis Fusco, his lawyer, has confirmed his passing to Tampa’s CBS News affiliate, WTSP-TV.
During a news conference, Tampa Police spokesperson Jonee Lewis reported that at approximately 4:40 a.m., officers received a call regarding a shooting at the Holiday Inn Tampa North. Two vehicles were targeted, resulting in four individuals being struck by gunfire.
Police have reported that one of the individuals who fell victim to the incident was a 26-year-old named Charles Jones. While it is suspected that this individual is actually Foolio, the rapper’s identity has not yet been confirmed by the medical examiner. WTSP has reported that Jones is the legal name of the artist.
The shooting resulted in injuries for three additional individuals.
According to WTSP, Fusco disclosed that Foolio had come to Tampa to mark his birthday at an Airbnb but was requested to depart due to an overflow of people at the location. He subsequently relocated to the Holiday Inn, where he was allegedly attacked, as stated by Fusco to WTSP.
With more than 1 million Instagram followers, Foolio recently took to social media to share and promote his Tampa birthday celebration.
According to Lewis, the hotel guests were not evacuated despite the situation, but the police were present and ready to assist them if needed.
Authorities are encouraging individuals to come forward with any available footage or details that could aid in the ongoing investigation.
Lewis urged anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward and share even the smallest detail to help them piece together what happened this morning.
