Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) made it clear on Thursday that his state will not abide by the newly introduced changes to Title IX by the Biden administration.
In a video shared on the social platform X, Governor DeSantis boldly declares Florida’s rejection of President Biden’s attempt to rewrite Title IX. He firmly states that the state will not comply and will actively fight back against these changes.
“We won’t allow Joe Biden to introduce men into women’s activities,” DeSantis emphasized. “We won’t let him undermine the rights of parents, and we certainly won’t let him abuse his constitutional authority by imposing these policies on us here in Florida.”
The Biden administration recently announced its final set of changes to Title IX, which aims to enhance the protection of transgender students under the federal civil rights law against sex-based discrimination. These changes are set to come into effect in early August.
“These final regulations carry forward the principles of Title IX, ensuring that all students in our country have the opportunity to attend schools that prioritize safety, inclusivity, and the protection of their rights,” stated Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.
LGBTQ advocates have previously criticized DeSantis for enacting state laws that they believe negatively impact their community. One such law is the Don’t Say Gay law, which places restrictions on discussions about LGBTQ topics within Florida public schools.
