Former Rep. Patrick Kennedy, R-R.I., who is the cousin of independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced his endorsement of President Joe Biden on Sunday morning. As the incumbent president seeks another term in office, Kennedy voiced his support for Biden’s re-election bid.
During a larger discussion with host Dana Bash about addiction and the mental health crisis, Kennedy emphasized that Joe Biden is the only viable option. He stated, “There is no other choice than Joe Biden,” in an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Is Patrick Kennedy worried about RFK Jr. as a ‘spoiler’ for Joe Biden?
A former politician and mental health advocate named Patrick Kennedy told Bash that he is afraid of what a second term for former President Donald Trump could mean for the country. When asked if his cousin, RFK Jr., could hurt Biden’s chances of winning in November, Kennedy agreed.
Patrick Kennedy said, “Democracy is really in danger.” “The threat to democracy is here at home.”
Some people have said that RFK Jr., an environmental lawyer who has long believed in conspiracies, could help one of the two frontrunners lose the race by taking votes away from them.
RFK Jr.’s team had registered to vote in six states by the middle of May. His campaign is moving to take this idea to other places, and most national polls have him at less than 15%. But in close places, even a small number of votes can make all the difference.
RFK Jr. told Scripps News that he is going to make a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission because he might not be able to go to the debate between Biden and Trump on June 27.
The odd Kennedy out
Several Kennedy family members supported Biden over RFK Jr. at a Biden rally in Philadelphia last month.
“At the event, Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Robert F. Kennedy and the younger sister of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., expressed our unwavering belief that the most favorable path for America lies in the re-election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for another term.”
A number of members from the Kennedy family have openly voiced their opposition to RFK Jr.’s bid for candidacy.
Dozens of members of the Kennedy family, who are staunch Democrats, joined Biden at the White House in March for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
