The Israeli military has killed over 37,000 people in Gaza as part of its continuing campaign against the Palestinian group Hamas.
Since October 7, the Gaza Health Ministry reported on Sunday that there have been 37,084 Palestinian deaths and 84,494 injuries. The death toll climbed following a massacre at the Al-Nusairat refugee camp, when Israeli forces killed at least 274 Palestinians and injured 698 others.
“There are still a number of victims undercounted and on the roads that ambulance and civil defense teams cannot reach,” said the Gaza Health Ministry in a statement.
According to Al Jazeera, Israel’s bombardment killed at least 64 children, 57 women, and 37 people who were considered elderly. Furthermore, the United Nations Children’s Fund reported on Sunday that 90% of Gaza’s youngsters live in “severe food poverty.”
“My child was crying, afraid of the sound of the plane firing at us,” Hadeel Radwan, a 32-year-old woman who took her seven-month-old daughter to safety, told Al Jazeera. “We all thought we wouldn’t survive. “This brutal occupation will not allow us to live.”
In an attempt to rescue four Israeli captives kidnapped by Hamas, Israeli forces assaulted the refugee camp. Hamas announced on Sunday that the Israeli attack killed three other hostages.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday to discuss the “heinous massacre” at the refugee camp, according to a militia statement.
According to Hamas, Fidan expressed his sympathies to the Palestinian people and condemned the massacre of people in Gaza. The diplomat also emphasized Turkey’s opinion that Hamas is a legitimate national liberation movement, according to Hamas.
On Saturday, delegates from the D8 group of countriesโBangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkeyโconvened in Istanbul to publish a unified statement condemning Israeli brutality in Gaza and the West Bank.
