Rep. Lucy McBath, a Democrat from Georgia, has secured the Democratic nomination for another term in the House, as reported by Decision Desk HQ.
In her bid to secure the Democratic primary, McBath found herself up against two formidable opponents: state Rep. Mandisha Thomas and Cobb County Commissioner Jerica Richardson. There was a possibility of a runoff if no candidate managed to secure at least 50 percent of the vote. However, McBath surpassed this threshold, emerging as the clear winner of the primary.
In 2018, she won the election to represent Georgia’s 7th Congressional District, and she secured re-election in 2020. With the state’s redistricting process favoring Republicans, she decided to switch to the 6th Congressional District.
McBath made the decision to switch back and run in the 6th District this year after a federal judge gave approval to a new map for Georgia, which dismantled the Democratic-leaning 7th District.
In the general election, she will go head-to-head with Republican Jeff Criswell. Given the district’s solidly Democratic nature, she is expected to be the front-runner and likely secure a victory.
