Michelle Troconis, convicted of aiding her boyfriend in concealing the murder of his estranged wife, could potentially receive a prison sentence of up to 50 years during her sentencing on Friday.
On May 24, 2019, Jennifer Dulos, a mother of five from Connecticut, vanished during a bitter custody battle with her estranged husband, Fotis Dulos.
Prosecutors claimed Fotis Dulos murdered his estranged wife in her garage, and his live-in lover, Troconis, assisted him in concealing evidence.
On March 1, the court found Troconis guilty of all charges against her, including conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, and obstructing the prosecution.
Troconis faces one to 20 years in prison if the judge decides the sentences to run concurrently and up to 50 years if the penalties run consecutively, according to The Stamford Advocate.
Police claimed at the trial that security film showed Fotis Dulos driving in Hartford later that day, with Troconis in the passenger seat, and making stops to put alleged evidence in trash cans, according to the Hartford Courant. Prosecutors showed jurors zip ties, gloves, and damaged garments they claimed they recovered from garbage cans in court.
The Stamford Advocate reports that Troconis helped her lover clean a suspected crime-related truck and gave him an alibi.
Troconis maintained her innocence, with the defense stating that while she never disputed being in the car with her boyfriend, she did deny any involvement or knowledge of any crimes committed by Fotis Dulos.
Just weeks after facing charges for Jennifer Dulos’ murder, Fotis Dulos passed away on his own in January 2020.
Although no one has ever found Jennifer Dulos’ remains, a judge has ruled her legally dead.
Fotis Dulos’ friend and former lawyer, Kent Mawhinney, has also faced accusations of aiding in the crime’s cover-up. He pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and is currently awaiting trial.
