Thousands of Trump supporters from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York flocked to the beach in the bustling Jersey Shore town. They gathered on a vibrant stretch of sand, surrounded by thrilling amusement rides, the majestic ocean, and a lively boardwalk adorned with shops and carnival games.
Trump addressed the crowd against the backdrop of a colossal Ferris wheel, roller coaster, water slide, and various other amusement rides. As the festival ambiance enveloped the venue, the former president infused his discourse with his characteristic blend of progressively doomsday-like rhetoric.
In a somber tone, he expressed his deep concern for the state of American communities, describing them as victims of “plunder, rape, slaughter, and destruction.” He emphasized that our country is facing significant challenges and is in urgent need of attention.
He emphasized on Saturday that America faces less of a threat from external forces and more from the “enemies within.”
“We face threats both externally and internally,” he expressed. “The dangers from within are more perilous to me than those from the outside. Dealing with Russia and China is within our capability, but these radicals within our government pose a greater risk of destroying our nation, and it seems likely that they want to. We must put an end to it.”
Trump’s attempts to overturn the previous presidential election led to two criminal indictments. Additionally, he is currently facing charges for his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
According to Trump, he is intensifying his criticism of Biden as he holds him responsible for his indictments, despite lacking evidence.
“I now speak about him in a different manner since there are no restrictions. He is a dishonest individual who should never have engaged in such activities as they are detrimental to our nation,” Trump stated as he held Biden responsible for his legal troubles.
According to a statement from Biden spokesperson James Singer, Trump has been labeled as “a danger to the Constitution and a threat to our democracy.” Singer further accuses Trump of making promises to rule as a dictator from “day one,” punishing those who oppose him, condoning violence carried out on his behalf, and prioritizing his own revenge and retribution over what is best for America.
New Jersey, a state that has not supported a Republican candidate for president since 1988, is considered a solidly Democratic stronghold. This raises doubts about the strategic decision to hold a Trump rally in the area. Despite this, Trump maintains that New Jersey is up for grabs, even though it is widely anticipated to once again favor Biden in the upcoming election.
Located in New Jersey, Wildwood serves as a Republican stronghold. It is situated in close proximity to New York City, where Trump is currently facing trial, and is also near the former president’s estate in Bedminster.
The rally also attracted attention from the Philadelphia media market and drew attendees from the city and its surrounding suburbs, which are crucial sources of votes in swing state Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania was a constant topic of discussion in Trump’s speech.
He asked, “Who is from Pennsylvania?” and added, “I went to school in Pennsylvania.”
John Llewellyn, a 57-year-old postal worker, made the journey from the Philadelphia area along with his wife and daughter to participate in the rally. Sporting a Philadelphia Eagles jacket, he proudly shared that he had voted for Trump in the past two elections and intends to do so again.
Being a supporter of Trump means becoming a part of a movement and a family, according to Llewellyn.
Llewellyn views Atlantic City, where Trump operated casinos, as his “home turf” in the southern Jersey Shore.
Llewellyn strongly criticized Trump’s criminal cases, dismissing them as “baseless charges… designed to distract him.” He also expressed his belief in the unproven allegations of election fraud in the 2020 election.
Mark Bass, a 64-year-old home builder from the Philadelphia area, made the drive to the rally to show his support for America and what he believes is one of the best presidents the country has had in decades.
According to Bass, if Trump were to be incarcerated, he believes that it would actually boost Trump’s popularity and attract more votes.
Many of the attendees at the rally donned shirts featuring Trump’s mug shot from his indictment in Georgia, accompanied by the powerful message “Never Surrender.” Additionally, some individuals wore shirts in support of those who were arrested for their involvement in the riot at the Capitol building.
The attendees erupted in applause as Trump’s plane, affectionately known as “Trump Force One,” soared through the sky a mere two hours before the rally commenced.
Planes crisscrossed the sky, trailing banners that both trolled and praised Trump.
One of the signs read “SCOTUS justice can’t wait,” while another sign stated “Jack Ciattarelli said don’t vote Trump he’s embarrassing.” This sign seemed to be referring to Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican candidate for governor in New Jersey, who initially criticized Trump during his first campaign but later supported him in 2020.
A different banner was seen flying behind a plane with the message “God bless D Trump.”
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who is being considered as one of the potential running mates for former President Trump, energetically engaged with the crowd. Trump himself even hinted at the possibility of a Trump/Burgum ticket.
“You won’t find anyone better than this gentleman in terms of his knowledge… so get ready for something, okay. Just get ready,” Trump exclaimed.
