South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) has faced intense scrutiny this week over an anecdote regarding the tragic incident involving her dog. However, she firmly stands by her decision, asserting that she had to take action to safeguard her children from the potentially harmful animal.
In the book excerpt, it is mentioned that the governor of the Mount Rushmore State carried out the task of shooting her 14-month-old German wirehaired pointer named Cricket in a gravel pit on her property. The governor acknowledged that this was not a pleasant task but felt that it was necessary and had to be done.
Noem’s chances of securing the vice-presidential spot have likely been doomed by the anecdote, combined with other controversies, leaving many Republicans puzzled and skeptical.
Some people compared her anecdote to a political incident during Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-Utah) 2012 presidential campaign. At that time, he received criticism for a story about him securing his dog on the roof of his car during a family road trip.
In recent days, Noem has reaffirmed her decision, showing a determined stance.
“I completely understand why some individuals may be upset about a story involving Cricket, one of the hardworking dogs at our ranch, in my upcoming book, ‘No Going Back’,” she expressed on X, a popular social platform. “This book is a collection of honest anecdotes from my life, encompassing both the highs and lows, the obstacles I’ve faced, difficult choices I’ve had to make, and the invaluable lessons I’ve learned along the way.”
