According to a spokesperson for Yellowstone National Park, law enforcement rangers encountered an armed individual at the park in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to a press release from the park, the rangers engaged in a gunfight with an individual, ultimately resulting in the individual’s death.
The confrontation left a ranger injured, but thankfully they are recovering in a nearby hospital.
Overnight, reports surfaced that an individual had been making threats in the Canyon Village area, brandishing a firearm. In response, the rangers promptly reacted to the situation.
According to the park’s statement, law enforcement rangers engaged in a gunfire exchange with the individual they had contacted. The subject unfortunately did not survive the encounter.
Law enforcement officials are investigating a shooting that occurred around Canyon Lodge during the Fourth of July holiday. The area, which offers more than 500 rooms and cabins for visitors, remained closed as the FBI and National Park Service collaborated on the investigation.
The identity of the deceased person, as well as the injured law enforcement ranger, has not been disclosed by the park.
