House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries strongly criticized conservative Supreme Court justices on Thursday, as he called for Samuel Alito to recuse himself from all cases related to Jan. 6.
Alito has come under fire for reportedly flying flags linked to attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. This includes displaying an upside-down American flag, a symbol that gained prominence after Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol building. Additionally, Alito was seen flying an “Appeal To Heaven” flag, also known as the Pine Tree Flag, which has historical significance from the Revolutionary War but has more recently been associated with support for Trump.

During a press conference held on Thursday morning, Jeffries strongly criticized the conservative justices and specifically urged Alito to recuse himself from any cases related to the events of Jan. 6.
Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas are totally out of control. These individuals continue to detonate the credibility of the United States Supreme Court. In the case of Samuel Alito, he definitively needs to recuse himself from any matter pending before the United States Supreme Court that has to do with the January 6th violent insurrection. He should have no part of it. Part of the problem that we confront is that the Supreme Court has chosen to conduct itself as if the judiciary is above the law. In America, no one is above the law. That includes the Supreme Court. That includes Samuel Alito, and that includes Clarence Thomas. If the Supreme Court does not get it’s act under control. You can be confident that Democrats in the House of Representatives are partnering the Democrats in the United States Senate will act at the first opportunity, we have to engage in thorough oversight and the consideration of imposing an ethical code of conduct on Supreme Court justices.
