Nikki Haley warmly embraced her husband upon his return to the United States, following the successful completion of his deployment with the South Carolina National Guard.
Haley expressed her gratitude on social media platform X, sharing the relief she felt when her loved one, Michael, returned safely. After a year of longing and praying, she could finally take a breath and cherish the reunion.
Major Michael Haley, the husband of the former GOP presidential candidate, was deployed to the Horn of Africa as a staff officer with the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. During his deployment, Haley’s wife shared a heartfelt social media post with photos of her and their children hugging him and holding a sign that said “Welcome Back Dad.”
Haley bid her husband goodbye at a ceremony held at The Citadel, a military college in Charleston, in June 2023. His deployment occurred at the peak of her GOP presidential campaign, which she withdrew from last month.
Michael Haley, who has been married to her for 27 years, has been a constant presence on the campaign trail during Haley’s previous political endeavors. However, this year, his absence on the campaign trail led former President Trump to criticize Haley, unaware that he was actually deployed at the time.
During one of his rallies, Trump questioned the whereabouts of a woman’s husband, asking, “What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone.”
Trump received significant backlash for his comments regarding Michael, with Haley herself condemning his behavior. She made it clear that someone who consistently shows disrespect towards military families is unfit for the role of commander in chief.
