Former President Donald Trump proposed that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley join his team after she stated her intention to vote for him in November.
“I appreciated what she said,” Trump told Long Island’s News 12 following his Bronx rally on Thursday.
When asked if she would be on his team or ticket, Trump replied, “Well, I think she’s going to be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas and the same thoughts.”
Given her lukewarm endorsement, it is unclear how aggressively Haley will support Trump’s re-election campaign. As of now, Haley has not publicly shown an interest in working with the Trump campaign. Following a May 11 rumor that Haley was on Trump’s list for vice president, the former president responded on Truth Social: “Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!”
The former United Nations ambassador said she would vote for Trump because she believes President Joe Biden has fared poorly in global affairs.
“Trump has not been perfect on these policies, but Biden has been a catastrophe,” Haley said during a foreign policy discussion at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank where she works. “So I will be voting for Trump.”
Haley stated she stood by the words she made in her speech halting her campaign on March 6, saying, “It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party who did not support him, and I hope he does.”
Haley received acclaim for her ability to unite a diverse group of people, including independents and moderate Republicans. Given their concerns about Trump becoming the Republican presidential nominee, the Biden team has stated that it is reaching out to her supporters. Haley has continued to receive votes, even after dropping out of the contest.
