Officials have announced that a hiker was discovered deceased after spending the night at a campsite in Arizona’s Grand Canyon.

According to a news release by the National Park Service, the man, aged 41, was returning from an overnight stay at the Bright Angel Campground near Phantom Ranch while hiking out of the canyon.

According to the park service, on Father’s Day last Sunday at approximately 6:45am, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center was informed of an unresponsive hiker on the Bright Angel Trail, which is the most popular hiking trail in the canyon.

According to the National Park Service, although the trail is deemed easy while descending the inner canyon, the return hike back up and out of the canyon is significantly more challenging, requiring more effort and taking twice the time it took to come down.

Despite the valiant efforts of bystanders and National Park Service personnel, the individual could not be resuscitated.

The Coconino County Medical Examiner is partnering with the National Park Service to conduct an investigation into an incident. Currently, no further details are available regarding this matter.

Just a month ago, authorities found the body of a man who was traveling down the Colorado River in a wooden raft in the Grand Canyon National Park. Sadly, this recent death adds to the list of fatalities that have occurred in this popular park.

Last month, the National Park Service reported that Thomas Robinson, a 58-year-old man from Santa Fe, New Mexico, was discovered deceased on May 10th. It is believed that he had tried to navigate down the Colorado River on a wooden raft with his dog.
