On Wednesday, Eric Holder, the former Attorney General, expressed his concern regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on former President Trump’s claim of presidential immunity. Holder fears that the decision may lead to a “dangerous” conclusion. Part of his concern comes from the amount of time it has taken for the justices to reveal their decision.
In regards to the federal cases concerning the storage of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, and the charges related to the 2020 election and the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, Trump has asserted his immunity.
We can anticipate a verdict from the Supreme Court before the month of June comes to a close.
During a recent appearance on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” with Nicolle Wallace, the former attorney general to President Obama proposed that certain justices may contend that if President Trump committed a crime while carrying out his presidential duties, he could be in violation of criminal law.
According to Holder, it’s worth considering the idea that if the president were to violate criminal law while acting in an official capacity, it may be permissible. He acknowledges the notion that some justices are exploring this idea and believes it’s important to take a step back and reflect on it.
Holder expressed his concern over the possibility of an absurd and dangerous conclusion being reached by the Supreme Court, given the length of time it has taken them to decide on a case that could allow a president to violate American criminal law while performing official duties. Holder emphasized the danger of such a conclusion and refuted the idea that a president is above the law in any capacity.
In his statement, Holder emphasized that it is crucial for the Supreme Court to make a decision that ensures that a president is accountable to the law, just like any other American citizen. He went on to declare that any other outcome would be deemed as absurd.
According to Trump and his legal team, ex-presidents are immune to criminal charges for any official actions they took while in office.
It remains uncertain which decisions will be announced by the Supreme Court on Thursday and Friday, the upcoming decision dates.
There are individuals who are critical of Trump and their observation leads them to believe that the court will not acknowledge Trump’s immunity.
Last week, George Conway, a conservative attorney known for his criticism of President Trump, expressed his belief on CNN that Trump will suffer a significant loss in the case.
Kellyanne Conway expressed her confidence in the court’s decision regarding Donald Trump’s election loss. She stated, “I do trust the court on this. I think…Donald Trump is going to lose. I think he’s going to lose big.” Conway believes that there may be a few complications in the process, but ultimately, Trump’s argument will not hold up.
