Pat Sajak has bid farewell to “Wheel of Fortune” viewers, thanking them for “allowing me into your lives” over his 41-season tenure as the show’s presenter.
In a video that will show on Friday’s season finale (check local listings), Sajak talked directly to the television viewers during his final spin of the wheel.
“Well, the time has come to say goodbye,” he replied. “Entering millions of homes every night, year after year, decade after decade, has been a great honor.” And I’ve always believed that privilege came with the responsibility of keeping this daily half-hour a safe space for family enjoyment. I hope there will be no social concerns, politics, or humiliating situations. “Just a game.”
However, Sajak believes that “Wheel of Fortune,” with its global reach, has become more than just a game. The game show became an event “where families came together along with friends and neighbors and entire generations,” according to Sajak. “What an honor to have had even a small role in all of this. Thank you for welcoming me into your lives.
On June 6, his longtime co-host Vanna White said a sad goodbye to Sajak in her own video, stating, “I love you, Pat.” White will remain on the “Wheel of Fortune.” In September, Ryan Seacrest will take over as host.
