Jill Biden, the First Lady, made her way to a Delaware courthouse on Monday morning. Her purpose was to attend the trial of her son, Hunter Biden, who is facing federal gun charges.
President Biden and the first lady opted to spend the night in Wilmington, the location of Hunter Biden’s ongoing trial. It is worth noting that the Bidens have a residence in Wilmington and often make weekend visits. Notably, Hunter Biden was seen at the White House on Friday and accompanied the family to Delaware in preparation for his trial.
The president was not expected to attend the event, as he and the White House have aimed to keep a distance from the legal proceedings concerning his son. However, the president has previously expressed his pride in Hunter for addressing his drug addiction problems and emphasized that Hunter has committed no wrongdoing.
Jill Biden will be celebrating her 73rd birthday on Monday.
Ashley Biden, Hunter’s sister, was seen entering the courthouse in Wilmington alongside the first lady.
Hunter Biden, aged 54, is currently under investigation for allegedly providing false information on a federal form during the purchase of a firearm back in 2018. In the document, he claimed that he was not a drug user, despite the fact that he was struggling with a cocaine addiction at that time.
In his 2021 memoir, he openly discusses his addiction and provides detailed insights into his personal struggles.
Republicans have frequently targeted Hunter Biden in their political attacks, trying to link his business dealings directly to President Biden in order to portray the entire family as corrupt. However, these attempts have been unsuccessful in uncovering any substantial evidence of wrongdoing, causing an impeachment inquiry in the House to falter over the past year.
The trial of Biden is scheduled to commence shortly after a New York City jury convicted former President Trump on 34 felony charges for concealing alleged affairs during his 2016 campaign by falsifying business records.
Democrats have used Hunter Biden’s prosecution as evidence to counter the assertions made by Trump and his supporters that the Justice Department is being used as a tool against Republicans.
