President Biden took a jab at former President Trump on Tuesday, ridiculing him for selling Bibles last month. Additionally, he strongly criticized the presumptive GOP nominee for his track record on abortion.
Biden, a devout Catholic, expressed his view on Trump’s perspective of the Dobbs decision, regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling that effectively overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022. According to Biden, Trump characterized this ruling as a miraculous outcome.
According to Biden, the source of this behavior may be related to the Bible that he is attempting to sell. He even contemplated purchasing one himself just to understand its contents. This remark drew laughter from the audience. Biden firmly believes that the recent actions were not a miracle but rather a political agreement made with the evangelical base of the Republican Party. In this deal, they chose to overlook his moral and character shortcomings in exchange for his promise to nominate Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade.
In the days leading up to Easter, Trump enthusiastically endorsed the “God Bless the USA” Bibles, a collection priced at $60. These Bibles are named after the popular Lee Greenwood song that is often played at Trump’s rallies. He encouraged his supporters to purchase these special editions.
In a promotional video for the book, Trump expressed his pride in endorsing and encouraging others to acquire this Bible. He emphasized the importance of revitalizing prayer in America, stating, “We must make America pray again.”
According to an article in The New York Times, it was revealed that Trump was not directly involved in the sale of the Bibles, but he was receiving royalties from the purchases.
During Holy Week, Trump faced criticism from conservatives who accused him of commodifying the Bible. While he often portrays himself as a defender of Christian values and accuses Democrats of persecuting Christians, some conservatives found fault with his actions.
