Over the weekend, John Force, the renowned drag racer, was involved in a significant incident while participating in a National Hot Rod Association event in Virginia.
During the first round of eliminations for the Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie County, Force, aged 75, was behind the wheel of his funny car, which is a unique class of car in drag racing, on Sunday.
According to John Force Racing, Terry Haddock was defeated by Force in just 4.10 seconds at a blazing speed of 302.62 mph. However, as he crossed the finish line, Haddock’s car engine blew up and caught fire. The car then careened across the centerline, hitting both guard walls before finally coming to a stop.
According to a statement released by NHRA, the NHRA medical team examined the 16-time champion on-site and found him to be alert. He was then taken to a local medical center for further evaluation. The team of the champion posted that he was being evaluated in the intensive care unit.
In the Funny Car division, Austin Prock, the teammate of John Force Racing, emerged as the winner.
Force experienced a setback in 2007 when he was involved in a crash at Texas Motorplex in Enis, causing him to be out of commission for several months.
Three weeks ago, Force set a new record by winning his 157th NHRA race in New Hampshire. Currently, he holds the second position in the driver’s championship, trailing behind Prock.
Born in Bell Gardens and currently residing in Yorba Linda, California, Force is a prominent figure.
The Virginia Motorsports Park boasts a quarter-mile drag strip that has been operational since 1994. With a seating capacity of up to 23,000 spectators, it is a popular destination for racing enthusiasts.
