In Saturday’s comments, conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg labeled Vice President Kamala Harris as President Biden’s “worst political decision” of his presidency.
During a panel discussion on CNN’s “The Chris Wallace Show,” Goldberg presented her argument.
CNN anchor Wallace shared the findings of a focus group with a panel. According to the Republican Voters Against Trump, swing voters have expressed a dislike for Harris. Additionally, a focus group conducted by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) revealed that the Vice President can sometimes rub people the wrong way.
According to Jonah Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the online news outlet “The Dispatch,” he believes that Kamala Harris’s likability issue poses a potential obstacle to Joe Biden’s chances of being reelected.
In a recent statement on CNN, highlighted by Mediaite, Goldberg expressed his strong disapproval of her, stating, “I think she’s a pretty big drag. I think she was arguably Biden’s worst political decision of his presidency to pick her in the first place.”
According to the speaker, one of the main reasons why people find her to be a drag is due to concerns about Biden’s age. There is apprehension that he may not be able to complete a full term or be capable of handling the responsibilities of the job. Consequently, the role of the vice president becomes even more significant than usual.
In a recent column for the Los Angeles Times, the columnist emphasized the importance for Democrats to carefully consider their choice of candidates from deep-blue states. The columnist expressed concerns regarding the ability of these candidates to effectively appeal to a wide range of voters, unless they possess exceptional talent like former President Obama.
“I believe it would be wise for Democrats to avoid selecting or promoting individuals from heavily Democratic states, unless they possess exceptional talent like Barack Obama,” Goldberg commented. “Kamala Harris, for instance, lacks the ability to effectively communicate with centrist or right-leaning individuals. Her language primarily appeals to the party’s base, which represents only 34% of the electorate.”
According to Wallace, a recent poll conducted by Monmouth University revealed that 55% of respondents expressed disapproval of her job rating. This is a slight improvement from the previous poll in February, where 58% of respondents had disapproved.
Tech journalist Kara Swisher, who was also on the panel along with journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro and the editor-in-chief of the Washington Free Beacon, Eliana Johnson, dismissed the significance of Harris’ numbers, stating that they won’t lead to her being replaced by another candidate.
Swisher noted that there is little significance in the potential replacement of the vice president, stating, “It doesn’t really matter, she’s not going to be replaced.” He further explained that there are numerous reasons why people do not favor her, but he believes that the vice president’s role does not hold as much importance as some may think. He added, “I don’t think they think about her unless…”
According to Wallace, Biden’s age might be a factor that could make a difference.
Swisher acknowledged the perspective, but pointed out that currently, people may not immediately associate her with the first thing they think about.
“I believe they simply haven’t warmed up to her. Her vice presidency hasn’t been as successful as some may have hoped, although I’m not entirely sure how one measures that. After all, people didn’t have particularly strong opinions about Mike Pence or Dan Quayle either. So, it’s really inconsequential because she isn’t going anywhere and there’s no chance of her being replaced. Just imagine the chaos that would ensue.”
