Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) made a significant announcement on Wednesday, stating that he will be launching an initiative called “Democrats for Hogan.” This initiative comes after his recent victory in securing the GOP nomination for Maryland’s highly competitive open Senate seat on Tuesday night.
“I’m thrilled to introduce Democrats for Hogan and have the incredible Bobby Zirkin, a former Democratic State Senator and a dear friend, on board with us,” Hogan exclaimed in a post on X. He also shared a video featuring Zirkin, where he openly expressed his support for Hogan and urged fellow Democrats to join him in doing so.
“To all my Democratic and Independent friends,” Hogan emphasized, “you are well aware of my longstanding reputation for bridging divides and finding common solutions for the betterment of our communities. You know that I am not afraid to prioritize the wellbeing of our citizens over political agendas, and that I consistently prioritize the interests of our nation above partisan affiliations. I assure you that I will remain steadfast in my commitment to leading Maryland with the same independent and resolute spirit that has defined my tenure thus far.”
“If you’ve had enough of the division and dysfunction and are looking for a strong, independent leader who will work tirelessly to repair the chaos in Washington, then come and join us,” Hogan emphasized in the statement.
Larry Hogan, a well-known and highly regarded former Republican governor in Maryland, is currently competing to replace the outgoing three-term Democratic Senator Ben Cardin. In the upcoming November election, Hogan will be going head-to-head with Angela Alsobrooks, the Prince George’s County Executive, who secured the Democratic nomination on Tuesday night.
In Hogan’s latest video, Zirkin, the co-chair of Democrats for Hogan, enthusiastically supports Hogan’s leadership, urging fellow Democrats to examine Hogan’s track record on various important issues. Zirkin highlights Hogan’s stance on topics such as fracking, criminal justice reform, cyberbullying, and his ability to balance taxes while investing in crucial areas like education and the Chesapeake Bay.
Hogan’s unexpected decision to enter the race earlier this year has ignited Republican optimism for a successful campaign in the predominantly Democratic state, with aspirations of reclaiming the Senate.
With the party primary now completed, Hogan is redirecting his attention towards presenting himself as a reliable and independent leader.
During his speech on Tuesday evening, Hogan echoed a similar sentiment to his audience, emphasizing the urgent need for leaders who prioritize the well-being of the nation.
“I am ready to take a stand and fight for the issues that truly make a difference, but I am not interested in engaging in the typical politics that maintain the status quo or contribute to further division and inaction,” Hogan stated on Tuesday. “I don’t subscribe to the approach of performative politics, but rather believe in rolling up my sleeves and getting things done. I am open to collaborating with anyone who is dedicated to serving the needs of the people.”
