The hearing in Donald Trump’s classified documents case descended into chaos on Wednesday as lawyers engaged in a heated shouting match. The argument centered around allegations of a threat that was supposedly made to a defense attorney.
The hearing was originally scheduled for Walt Nauta, who is both a co-defendant and valet of Mr. Trump. He was set to present arguments regarding the alleged vindictive and selective charges brought against him by the office of special counsel, Jack Smith.
According to CNN, Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed by Mr. Trump, did not issue a ruling.
The hearing quickly became dominated by a dispute surrounding a meeting in August 2022. During this meeting, prosecutor Jay Bratt and Stanley Woodward, Mr. Nauta’s defense attorney, were involved. In court and legal documents, Mr. Woodward alleged that Mr. Bratt attempted to pressure Mr. Nauta into cooperating with the prosecution’s case against Mr. Trump. The alleged pressure involved a threat to negatively impact Mr. Nauta’s chances of being nominated for a judgeship.
In New York, the hush money trial involving Mr. Trump concluded on Tuesday with the defense’s sole witness, lawyer Robert Costello, providing additional evidence during his testimony.
In Washington DC, the RNC headquarters experienced a brief evacuation when vials of blood addressed to Mr. Trump were sent.
